Join Doc and host Danielle Orr for for their monthly feature on great athletes from the Americas and Caribbean in  politics and popular culture.  This feature is an outgrowth of Doc’s 14-part series on Latino athletes and sport in the El Sol Bilingue Newspaper in Ukiah, California.

Rhythms Picture

This month, we’ll speak about  Puerto Rico native Bernie Williams – a center-fielder with the New York Yankees for 16 years.  Bernie, who in addition to being an American League Batting champion and a 4 – time World Series champion, is currently a Grammy nominated Latin-jazz guitarist.  His book entitled Rhythms of the Game:  The Link Between Musical and Athletic Performance, authored with college professor and percussionist Dave Gluck (who spoke and gave an extremely well-received  master class at HSU last year) and professor, author and music producer Bob Thompson, is a ground-breaking examination of the similarities and surprising overlaps in musical and sport performance – whether it be the art and rigors of practice or reaching one’s potential under extreme pressure.
