Join Doc and host Danielle Orr for for their monthly feature on great athletes and sport from the Americas and Caribbean and their connection to popular culture and politics.

As diplomatic relations thaw between the United States and Cuba, the sport of baseball serves as a common passion between both countries – a shared connection that goes back more than 150 years.   Cuban-born major league baseball players currently populate rosters in both leagues.  This legacy is owed in large part to the great Minnie Minoso, who broke into the major leagues in 1948 just one year after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier    A great hitter, swift on the base-paths and a fastidious fielder, Minoso played with a burning spirit in five different decades and blazed a path for countless subsequent Cuban-born major league baseball stars in the latter half of the 20th century and into the 21st century.
